About the Finnish-Estonian History Dialogue:

The Finnish-Estonian History Dialogue was held as a facilitated dialogue in Autumn 2023 among five Estonian and five Finnish historians at Tallinn University. The purpose of the Dialogue was to identify and discuss the differences and similarities in the interpretation of 20th century history in Estonia and Finland. The dialogue explored new perspectives to look at the shared and differing histories of the two nations as well as developments in historiography, management of the past as well as the status of historians and historical research in societies.

The project applied the History Dialogue method developed by Historians without Borders, which can be used to enhance the dialogue on history, on a transnational basis or within societies. Historians without Borders has previously implemented the History Dialogue method for several projects, including a series of small group dialogues between Nordic and Belarusian historians, Ukrainian and Russian historians and for example as a series of small group dialogues on the pain points of the Finnish Civil War.

The Finnish-Estonian History Dialogue was organized by Historians without Borders in Finland in cooperation with Tallinn University and with the support of the Finnish-Estonian Culture Foundation.
