The European Network Remembrance and Solidarity (ENRS) are delighted to invite you to the 13th European Remembrance Symposium & International Conference on the 50th Anniversary of the Helsinki Final Act: The Spirit of Helsinki Then and Now in collaboration with Historians without Borders (HWB), the University of Helsinki, the Federal Foundation for the Study of the Communist Dictatorship in Germany, the Leibniz-Institute of European History (IEG), the Religion and Cold War Network (ReCoNet) and the Aue Foundation!
The symposium will be held on 10—13 June 2025 in the Finlandia Hall and at the University of Helsinki. The conference commemorates the 50th anniversary of the Helsinki Final Act, often called a ‘masterpiece of diplomacy’, and will ask about its significance for international relations today.
The accompanying international conference will focus on the impact the Helsinki Final Act had on civil society, the efficacy of human rights as well as religious actors and the formation of Helsinki groups across Europe and North America.
The annual symposium, hosted by the ENRS in partnership with other institutions, aims to promote collaboration among researchers and educators of 20th-century European history. At the conference, professionals and organisations will have the opportunity to present their activities and projects in the Turbo Presentations section. Please register your presentation in advance!
In addition to the panel and workshop programme, participants will have the opportunity to visit sites and museums important to the local history of Helsinki.
The registration is free of charge, but pre-registration is required. Participants are expected to cover their own travel expenses. The language of the conference is English.
More information about the event including the registration form can be found on ENRS’ website:
